Ukrainian Christmas Kutia

It's traditionally the first dish served at the Ukrainian Christmas Eve meal (Sviata Vecheria)

Ingredients

1 cup wheat berries
1/2 cup poppy seeds
1/2 cup honey
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
1/4 cup raisins
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
You can also add candied fruits or berries to taste

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the wheat berries and soak them overnight.

Step 2

Cook the wheat berries in a large pot with water until tender, usually 2-3 hours. Drain any excess water.

Step 3

Grind poppy seeds in a food processor until they form a paste.

Step 4

Mix cooked wheat berries, poppy seed paste, honey, chopped walnuts, raisins, and ground cinnamon in a bowl.

Step 5

Serve chilled and enjoy this traditional Ukrainian Christmas dish!
